Earlier in my career I was faced with a unique challenge. I was tasked with increasing circulation and to diversify readership of a quarterly print publication, while reducing costs. 

In an effort to stay relevant I proposed a migration from print to digital. The online format will not only save on printing costs but also empower staff by giving them easy access to valuable company information and promotion. Furthermore, it was paramount that the new platform created unity within the company’s HR, marketing and operational divisions.

The new online publication, Xpress was born and quickly became the most popular medium for all communications. 

During this time, the majority of my effort went towards creating and vetting content to transform it into useful, interesting and/or educational copy. I was also instrumental in the web design and continues improvement on functionality and engagement.  

Launching the online format resulted in a 230% increase in readership nationally and internationally.

anti Fraud Tips 1

The goal was to create awareness and prevent fraud related incidents within the medical industry.

I used digital and traditional marketing channels for promotional and educational purposes. I worked closely with branding and design to create artwork and a campaign mascot. The mascot was created to act as the face of fraud to alleviate negative connotations and to build a trusted and friendly brand.

Within the first three months of launching the campaign there was a 40% increase in fraud related tip offs.

I provided marketing, brand management and technical support at the following conferences:

  • Board of Healthcare Funders (x 4 years)

  • Healthcare Funders of Zimbabwe

  • National CEO road shows (x 4 years)

  • Cape Town Jazz Festival

  • AfroCentric Leadership Conference (x 2 years)

My responsibilities included the sourcing of suppliers for corporate gifts/clothing, printing of brochures and other promotional material, as well as the planning of the exhibition stands’ design and installation.

Brand management duties included launching the events and ensuring each individual brand messaging was unique and their brand image was used accurately. 

My responsibilities also entailed the project management of graphic designers and copywriters during the process of creating content.

The brands that were under management at these conferences were:

  • Medscheme (Healthcare, medical scheme administrator)

  • Helios IT Solutions (IT, security and web development)

  • Aid for Aids (Healthcare and disease management)

  • AfroCentric (JSE Listed investment company)
